Aurizon joins Shipping Australia as a novel participant in a new 2022 initiative

Aurizon is Australia’s largest rail freight operator and an ASX-listed company joins Shipping Australia which focuses on promoting and advancing the interests of ship proprietors and shipping agents in all matters of shipping policy and safe ecologically sustainable ship manoeuvres.

Aurizon employs more than 5,400 employees supporting the company to safely transport about 250 million tonnes of Australian commodities in a year, connecting primary producers, miners, and industry with international and domestic markets.

Aurizon’s bulk business offers integrated supply chain services, including, port services and material handling for a range of mining, rail and road transportation, metal, industrial and agricultural customers throughout Queensland, the Northern Territory, South Australia, New South Wales, and Western Australia.

Aurizon has a proven capability to transfer bulk merchandises such as cement, iron ore, bauxite, alumina, base metals, grain, livestock, fertilisers securely and efficiently.

The company is also well-placed in markets helping the universal acceptance of electric vehicles, telecommunications, and renewable energy infrastructure that is driving demand for Australian resources such as copper, cobalt, and lithium.

Aurizon operates within six ports comprising Townsville, Port Alma, Cairns, Mackay, Gladstone, and Newcastle and has export sites in Aurizon Port Services (APS) Townsville, and Newcastle and also at the Port of Gladstone.

Aurizon Bulk East Commercial Manager, Matthew Gemmell, stated that the company is able to deliver holistic supply chain solutions for clienteles, maintained by a regional workforce and locally-based amenities transversely Australia.

Gemmell added that the company maintains and operates their own fleet and structure, letting them to work with clienteles to design, implement and fully bring about end-to-end supply chain solutions resulting in swiftness and suppleness in transporting goods to the market.

Gemmell said that Aurizon is delighted their new Liebherr 550c Mobile Harbour Crane arriving in early 2023 at their facility which would expand their services to include, warehousing, stevedoring, and transportation in the Gladstone region.

Aurizon united SAL to extend and develop their maritime relationships. The company is aware that associations are significant in the maritime industry, and would look forward to growing their industry networks with the support of SAL, he said.

Shipping Australia CEO Captain Melwyn Noronha devotedly greeted Aurizon as a novel participant.

Shipping Australia is fortunate to have Aurizon as a member. Their contribution and vision would be vital to Shipping Australia in their support of policies that benefit the industry. Shipping Australia would forward to working with Aurizon, Noronha said.

Captain Noronha added that each new company that joins Shipping Australia strengthens the association and a widely-constituted industry can be fruitful in advocating for policies that benefit the individuals of Australia. Captain Noronha said.

Shipping Australia is an industry association that embodies Australia’s international ocean shipping businesses. Shipping Australia has around 30 full members, encompassing shipping businesses, shipping agents, and towage providers. The company has more than 40 corporate associate members, which provide services to the maritime industry in Australia. These services comprise of terminal operations, management consultancy, pilotage, and legal advice.

Australia imports and exports the alike of around 8 million twenty-foot shipping containers per annum. Shipping Australia members handle the massive majority of these cases. They also handle a substantial capacity of their bulk merchandises and vehicle import trades.
