Berkshire Hathaway’s ‘Wind Prime’ renewable energy project would facilitate 50 megawatts of solar power and 2,042 megawatts of wind generation, Berkshire’s MidAmerican Energy Company stated on Wednesday. This could generate sufficient power to sustain almost 600,000 households. The company is also brainstorming to finance research on technology that could assist with carbon capture, energy storage, and minor nuclear reactors.
The project would reinforce Iowa’s already momentous wind market. In 2019, the state produced 41% of its comprehensive energy requirements from wind, a surge from merely 5.1% in 2006, as per the Iowa Utilities Board. It can produce an average of USD 24 million annually in local property-tax payments on the solar and turbines equipment, alongside over USD 21 million in yearly landowner-easement transactions. The firm estimates that the construction will be finished in the dusk of 2024 if the project receives approval.
