At the recently concluded Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) signed strategic partnerships with online travel agent Wego as well as with Qatar Airways.
The agreements come in the wake of the GNTO stepping up its efforts to showcase and promote Greek tourism throughout the region ahead of the summer travel period. The announcements were made at a press conference on the GNTO stand at the Arabian Travel Market.
The GNTO’s partnership with Qatar Airways will promote new direct routes to Greece, as an ongoing commitment to offer seamless connectivity for passengers.
In addition to high-demand destinations like Athens and Mykonos, the Greek island of Santorini – with some of the most famous views in the world – will become the third destination in Greece to be served by Qatar Airways.
The GNTO and Qatar Airways will jointly run a media campaign to augment awareness among audiences in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE. The campaign will focus on the unique travel experiences that Greece has to offer.
The first flight to Santorini is scheduled to depart from Doha’s Hamad International Airport on June 7, 2022.
General Secretary of the GNTO, Dimitrios Fragakis said that Greece was looking forward to a comeback at the Arabian Travel Market, which will be made a priority over the coming years. He also said that Greece offers a wide variety of accommodation and a superb city break opportunity for the Arabian audience.
Greek National Tourism Organization agreement with Wego
The Greek National Tourism Organisation has signed an exclusive agreement with Wego, one of the Middle East’s most influential online travel agents, as part of a strategic effort to build on Greece’s appeal to GCC customers.
Fragakis said that the GNTO would be excited to work with Wego, one of the most influential platforms for the Arab audience, in order to promote Greece as a destination for solo travelers, couples, and families. He also said that that the Greek mainland and islands offer fantastic potential for leisure holidays, and are also home to some of the most historic monuments in the world.
Mamoun Hmedan, Managing Director and Chief Commercial Officer for MENA and India for Wego stated that the company was excited to strike the partnership with Greece, which was one of the most popular destinations for travelers of all types. He added that Wego was committed to provide new destinations for its customers to visit.
Greece already accounts for 2.1 percent of all outbound travel traffic from the UAE, with the most popular destinations being the capital Athens, as well as the iconic island destinations of Mykonos and Santorini.
Last month, in a boost to the tourism sector, the Greek authorities announced plans to remove all Covid-19 entry requirements and allow all travelers to enter Greece restriction-free from May 1.
