Amazon has declared a re-launch of Egypt’s Souq.com (an online portal for Egyptian shoppers) as Amazon.eg, on 1st September 2021.
The website confirmed that the portal would feature an array of products from international and local brands and vendors. The items will be classified into several categories including – apparel, home & kitchen, electronics, grocery, Amazon products, and devices like Kindle.
The pre-existing wish lists, delivery addresses, customer credentials, orders, customer support queries, and payment methods from the Souq.com portal will be effectively transmitted to the newly re-launched portal’s accounts safely.
Customers, both new and old, coming from the Souq.com portal or the Amazon portal outside of Egypt can fully utilize the newly re-launched portal in Egypt by logging in to the mobile application and choosing ‘Egypt’ from the settings hyperlink, stated Amazon.
The online shopping portal also stated that end-users could also visit the newly re-launched portal through a desktop or mobile browser. On 31st August 2021, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly graced the inaugural ceremony of the Amazon Fulfillment Center in the Sharkia Governorate, in the presence of Minister of Communications and Information Technology – Dr. Amr Talaat, the Governor of Sharkia & Counselor – Dr. Mamdouh Ghorab, the CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) – Mohamed Abdel Wahab, and the Minister of Trade and Industry – Nevin Gamea.
The revamped fulfillment center spans an area of 28,000 square meters and is a part of the firm’s investments in the Egyptian logistics sector. It will facilitate a faster, smarter, and more efficient experience for consumers.
