Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Islamic Port has received the first and largest LNG-powered container ship in the world, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The container ship Jacques Saade is owned by the French shipping line CMA-CGM and represents the first visit to Saudi Arabia and Jeddah Islamic Port, which is known for its capacity to welcome the world’s largest ships. As reported by the state-run SPA, a co-operation agreement was signed by the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) with CMA-CGM, a leading logistics and shopping firm, upon the arrival of the ship in Jeddah Islamic Port.
The ship is 400 meters long and 61 meters in width, and has a capacity of 23,000 containers. The vessel’s launch took place in September 2020.
In a statement, Saad bin Abdulaziz Alkhalb stated that the ship’s arrival at the port marked a milestone in the history of the Saudi kingdom. The Jeddah Port connects three continents and is the central hub of regional as well as international levels, he added.
With the support of the Saudi logistics system, followed up by the Minister of Transport Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, the event marks the extension of the partnership between CMA-CGM and MAWANI.
