Facebook is rolling out its Facebook News in the #UK on January 26 in its first launch outside the U.S.
The social network giant will feature news from an assortment of leading local, national, and lifestyle outlets with select publishers being paid to license their content. With the deal, many leading publishers are on the winning side with the financial and subsequent economic boost.
Some of the national publishers and organizations include The Economist, Daily Mail Group, Financial Times, The Independent, Channel 4 News, and several local news channels like Reach, Midland News Association, and Archant, alongside lifestyle outlets like Vogue, GQ, Glamour, and Cosmopolitan.
The curated news portal is accessible through a tab in the iOS and Android app Menu.
According to #Facebook, the deal was to support the news and media industry in building sustainable business models. Additionally, the U.K. investment will also be the beginning of a series of international investments on news, with real journalism taking a front seat for audiences alongside provision of more advertising and subscription opportunities for sustainability.
