VEON plans to open a regional hub for its OTM global digital advertising organization to hasten the digital ecosystem of Uzbekistan and Central Asia

VEON Ltd, announces its new projects aimed at bridging the IT talent gap in Uzbekistan along with supporting the country’s plan to become a prominent IT hub in Central Asia. Through the opening of a regional hub for AdTech services and developing the cyber security labs and big data analytics in the country, VEON will be bringing in leading digital advertising competence by working through its Beeline Uzbekistan operating company.

VEON plans to open a regional hub for its OTM global digital advertising organization to hasten the digital ecosystem of Uzbekistan and Central Asia. The global digital operator that provides converged connectivity and online services, in the initial stages will be focusing on digital advertising services with the goal of expanding and becoming a global service provider in the future. The firm’s plans to open new OTM operations will see the hiring of around 70 digital advertising technology professionals in the coming year and will be located in the IT park in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Minister of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Shermatov states the importance of digital generation and the dependency of the country’s future on it. Uzbekistan is currently partnering with the top organizations and companies, with the aim of growing the country’s human capital and creating more momentum in realizing the country’s digital ambitions through various leading organizations’ global expertise. He further adds that the department is pleased to know VEON supports the President’s ambitions to transform the country into a regional IT hub by attracting experts and creating sophisticated competencies that assist in creating highly qualified specialists.

VEON also plans on expanding its BeeLab facility, located in Uzbekistan, and will focus on creating innovative and advanced expertise in big data analytics and cybersecurity. VEON expects the current BeeLab employee base of around 130 to above 250, and to create rich resources of IT professionals in Uzbekistan across various disciplines including software development, data science, solution architects, and Scrum Masters by the end of 2023. The mentioned professionals will assist in expanding BeeLab’s work on data analytics and cybersecurity for its existing as well as new client base in fintech and financial areas in Central Asia region and across Uzbekistan.

Kaan Terzioglu, CEO of VEON Group states the country is opening its door to the digital world and is committed to aiding Uzbekistan to emerge as an IT hub that benefits the whole Central Asia region. The main component of building a digital economy is the data and IT skills available to the country, says Kaan Terzioglu. He further adds that through the investment the firm is making in the development of data skills and IT services they believe that the company is playing a key role in channeling Uzbekistan’s digital future and economic growth.

Beeline Uzbekistan is a part of the VEON group and is the biggest mobile operator in the country and was the first to launch a 4G network in the year 2014. The company has made many large investments in the telecommunications sector in recent years which includes a roll-out of more than 3000 base stations. Beeline currently has more than eight million subscribers and over 1600 employees. VEON has invested more than $1.2 billion since its entering the country’s telecommunications industry.
